Fortnum & Mason has been woven into my life for as long as I can remember. My mum has always shopped there, so it was inevitable I’d follow in her footsteps. Some of my earliest memories are of wandering through the store at Christmas, choosing festive goodies and, of course, picking out our traditional Fortnum’s Christmas crackers.
Our Family Tradition
Over the years, visiting F&M during the festive season became a treasured ritual for me and my girls. We’d enjoy a spot of retail therapy, and treat ourselves to something sweet from the Parlour. I even had the pleasure of working with Lily Vanilli Bakery when they launched at F&M. The girls were too little to join me back then, but my mum and I loved every minute of the event.
The Twins’ 10th Birthday Treat
Fast forward to the twins’ 10th birthday and my mum pulled out all the stops, treating us to a beautiful afternoon tea in the Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon.

What I love is that they cater for all dietary needs including a full vegan option, alongside their famous selection of teas. There was only one sandwich I wasn’t wild about, but everything else was faultless. The cakes were especially superb. And because it was the twins’ big day, the staff surprised us with extra chocolate cake and a heartfelt “Happy Birthday” sung right at the table. Such a lovely touch.
Is It Worth It?
Yes, it’s on the pricier side but for the experience alone, absolutely. You’re not just paying for the food, you’re paying for the history, the service, and the little moments you’ll remember long after.
Top Tips for Afternoon Tea at Fortnum & Mason
- Book Early – Spaces fill up fast, especially around Christmas and weekends.
- Mention Your Dietary Needs When Booking – They’re excellent with vegan, gluten-free, and other requirements, but giving them a heads-up ensures the best experience.
- Dress Smart-Casual – There’s no strict dress code, but it’s nice to make an occasion of it.
- Leave Room for Cake – Portions are very substantial, so make the most of it.
- Make a Day of It – Wander around the store before or after tea; it’s part of the magic.
If you’re looking for a memorable way to celebrate a special occasion or simply to spoil yourself – a vegan afternoon tea at Fortnum & Mason is a wonderful experience. Just be warned: you’ll be planning your next visit before you’ve even finished your last scone.
