Hitchin Lavender Review – A Summer Day Out

Finding good and affordable days out with the kids during the summer holidays can be a challenge. While theme parks like Legoland and Chessington are always exciting, they can come with a hefty price tag. Not every day needs to be high-energy; slower-paced, relaxing days are just as valuable for the whole family.

This summer, we finally visited Hitchin Lavender – a place we’d had on our bucket list for years. It turned out to be the perfect blend of beauty, relaxation, and fun for both adults and children.

Booking & Planning Ahead

We booked our tickets a few weeks in advance and pre-ordered a lavender bag so we could pick our own flowers. We also made a plan to pick some sunflowers in memory of my grandma’s anniversary.

Arriving at Hitchin Lavender

There’s ample parking on-site, and entry was seamless – tickets were scanned quickly, and we were given scissors and a bag for collecting lavender.

The fields themselves were breathtaking. We took plenty of Instagram-worthy photos while collecting a generous bundle of lavender. Once home, we tied them with ribbon and made small lavender bags to gift to friends and family.

Sunflowers & Sweet Treats

After the lavender, we headed to the sunflower patch. At £1 per stem, we picked a few for our tribute and some to brighten up our home.

With our bags full and our cameras even fuller, we stopped at the coffee shop. The café offers a lovely selection of gifts and refreshments – we highly recommend the vegan Biscoff cake and a glass of lavender lemonade.

Other Attractions

We spent around two hours exploring, which felt like the perfect amount of time. Hitchin Lavender also offers:

  • A small museum (extra fee)
  • A play area for younger children
  • Seasonal events, such as a pumpkin patch in autumn

Facilities are excellent, with toilets located in the main coffee shop and an outdoor gift and coffee shop near the field exit. Staff were friendly and welcoming throughout.

Why We Loved It

Hitchin Lavender offers something for everyone – whether you’re a couple looking for a romantic stroll, a family wanting a relaxing outing, or even a solo visitor seeking peace and nature. The combination of fresh air, vibrant colours, and the scent of lavender made it one of our favourite summer days out.
