As a parent of twins, it can be a bit of a mission to find outings that both kids enjoy equally. One trip that’s never let us down is visiting the WB Harry Potter Studios in London. If you’re a Harry Potter fan, whether you plan a solo trip or just want a fun family day out, this place is seriously magical.
A Magical Beginning
Our connection with the Harry Potter Studios goes way back. When I first started blogging, I was lucky enough to be gifted tickets for three different launch events at the studios. These exclusive evenings, where the venue was closed just for influencers, were truly spectacular. I even spotted a few actors and believe it or not, even Rod Stewart and his family! Though these events were VIP access-all-areas experiences, I can say as a regular paying visitor, the studio tour never disappoints.
Twins’ First Visit: A Special 10th Birthday Treat
We brought the twins to the studios for their 10th birthday, and again as a Christmas treat during the enchanting Hogwarts in the Snow event. It was incredible watching their faces light up as they explored the sets, props, and costumes that bring the wizarding world to life. The studios offer various ticket options, but we’ve always chosen the standard studio tour. It’s reasonably priced considering everything you get, though it’s worth noting that extras like photo opportunities and the iconic Butterbeer are not included in the ticket price.
The Experience: Immersive from Start to Finish
The magic begins almost the moment you arrive. The entrance is lined with statues and posters that immediately transport you into the Harry Potter universe. Even the staff add to the immersive feel — all bags are searched and visitors walk through metal detectors, just like at the Ministry of Magic. It’s a good idea to prepare your children for this part, especially younger ones who might find it a bit surprising.
Once inside, the main hall is awe-inspiring, with a massive dragon hanging dramatically from the ceiling. You can grab a coffee or snack right at the start, but the real temptation awaits in the incredible gift shop. This isn’t just any souvenir store – it’s a treasure trove of Harry Potter merchandise, from wands and house sweatshirts to Chocolate Frogs and much more. Honestly, it’s worth a visit just for the shop alone.

Key Tips for Visiting with Twins (or Any Kids!)
- Book Tickets in Advance
The studios can get busy, especially during holidays and special events like Hogwarts in the Snow. Booking your tickets early secures your preferred date and time slot — crucial for families juggling twins’ schedules! - Prepare for Security Checks
All visitors go through bag checks and metal detectors. Explain this ahead of time to your kids so it’s not a surprise. - Bring Snacks and Water
While there are cafes, having a few snacks on hand helps keep little ones happy between magical discoveries. - Use the Harry Potter Passport
Grab a Harry Potter Studio Passport—a free guide available at the entrance or online—which helps kids (and adults!) explore the tour interactively. It has fun activities and trivia that turn the visit into a magical quest. - Take Breaks and Plan Your Route
The studio tour is extensive and can be overwhelming. Pace yourselves, take breaks, and don’t rush — it’s about soaking up the magic. - Photo Opportunities Are Extras
If you want official photos with the sets or characters, be prepared for additional costs. It’s perfectly fine to enjoy the experience without them if you’re on a budget. - Gift Shop Strategy
The shops are amazing and tempting! Set a spending limit with your kids beforehand to avoid any tricky moments at checkout.
Why We Keep Coming Back
I’ve been to the studios five times, and each visit feels like uncovering new secrets. There’s so much detail and magic packed into every corner that even after multiple trips, I still feel there’s more to explore. One day, I’d love to go back on my own just to take my time and browse everything in detail.
My twins have been twice, and they’re already asking to go again. Whether you’re raising twins, a family with kids of different ages, or just a Harry Potter fan, this experience is a dream come true.
If you’re planning a visit, check out the official website for detailed information on ticket options and how to make the most of your magical day.
Harry Potter-Themed Games & Crafts to Keep the Magic Alive at Home
Even after your magical visit, there’s plenty of fun to be had at home to keep your twins enchanted by the wizarding world.
- Make Your Own Wands
Use wooden dowels, hot glue, paint, and beads or gems to create personalized wands. Then, have a “wand duel”. - DIY Hogwarts House Sorting Hat
Craft a Sorting Hat using old fabric, paper mache, or felt. Write down the four houses on slips of paper and let your kids take turns “sorting” themselves and each other. - Potion-Making Station
Set up a potion station with colored water, glitter, baking soda, vinegar, and food coloring. Let your kids mix and create fizzing “potions” while learning some simple science. - Harry Potter Trivia Quiz
Create a quiz with fun questions from the books or movies. You can even turn it into a family game night challenge with small prizes. - Butterbeer Treats
Try making homemade Butterbeer with cream soda, butterscotch syrup, and vegan whipped cream. It’s a delicious way to relive the studio’s iconic treat. - Magical Bookmarks
Make Harry Potter-themed bookmarks featuring house crests, quotes, or magical creatures. It’s a simple craft that encourages reading too.
These activities are not only fun but great ways to bond with your twins over shared interests, sparking creativity and imagination long after your visit.
