Preparing for Spring

I’m a little later than I usually am with this, purely because life has felt especially full lately. Normally, I like to plan for spring during the winter months so everything feels organised and intentional. But recently, I’ve been leaning more into going with the flow and being present and honestly, it’s been a welcome shift.

In between our usual rhythm of hobbies and playdates, I still like to have a loose plan for the weekends where I can. It helps everything run more smoothly. We’ve got a few trips coming up, so I’ve started doing those little bits of mental prep – checking directions, journey times, parking – just to take away any unnecessary stress on the day.

As National Trust members, I always like to make the most of it. We’re so lucky to have so many beautiful places within a comfortable distance. I still enjoy flicking through the book from time to time, but the app does make it much easier to see what’s nearby. I’ve already got my eye on five places I’d love for us to visit this spring.

Our weekly veg box has been another source of inspiration. I’m really looking forward to cooking more seasonal dishes using our spring and summer cookbook – I’ve already picked out four recipes I want to try. Cooking has always been something I’ve loved. I often find myself experimenting in the kitchen, creating meals that eventually become staple favourites.

I think that love comes from how I was raised. I grew up surrounded by incredible home cooking – my Italian grandad was a head chef at a well known establishment in London, my Lebanese grandma always cooked from scratch, and my mum made sure I learned how to do the same. It’s something that’s stayed with me. We cook from scratch most days, with the occasional easy oven meal thrown in once a month – because sometimes, that’s exactly what’s needed.

Reading is high on my list too. I’ve downloaded quite a few books and I’m slowly working my way through them. Even though we still get out and about on rainy days, there’s something so comforting about curling up with a herbal tea and a good book. I’ve been dipping in and out of a few titles, making the most of my unlimited reads – but if I’m honest, I’ve also got a growing collection I’ve yet to start… slightly shamefully.

In the evenings, I’ve been unwinding with a light series – Younger. I’m about to start season four, and it’s definitely become a bit of a guilty pleasure. Sometimes you just need something easy and uplifting at the end of a long day, something that feels like a small escape.

I’m still continuing with learning Italian. Once I finish my current course, I’d love to pick up my tutoring sessions again. They really do make a difference – it’s just about finding the right rhythm. For now though, I’m focusing on my coaching sessions and making sure I’m in a really strong, steady place with that.

Decluttering is also very much ongoing. The bulk of it is done, thankfully – it’s just those final bits that need refining. We’ve reached a point where everything in our home feels intentional, minimal yet still warm and homely, which I really value. There are still renovations to tackle, but I’m waiting for the weather to improve before we take on the bigger jobs – like having a large ceiling skimmed.

And finally, I need to start thinking about the finer details of our trips later in the year. August and October will come around quickly, and I want everything to feel thoughtfully planned so we can enjoy it all without any last-minute stress.

A slower, slightly less structured start to the season, but one that feels just right.
