Coaching Journey

As a full-time working mum (over 40) in the corporate world (at one of the top 10 best places to work), staying on top of my game isn’t just important – it’s essential.

I’ve been with my current firm for eight years now and one thing I’ve learned is that keeping things fresh truly matters. A couple of years ago, I went through a particularly challenging season. I was working 55–60 hour weeks, running on very little support and dealing with a difficult colleague who, at times, seemed intent on tearing me down.

It was exhausting – mentally, emotionally and physically. But as tough as that chapter was, it led to something incredibly positive.

Looking back, I can clearly see it as a form of redirection. God knew what I needed before I could fully admit it to myself. Deep down, I was craving a different pace of life. The long hours, evenings and weekends were no longer sustainable – not for me and not for the life I wanted to build for my family.

Then came an opportunity within the same firm: a Monday to Friday, 9am–5:30pm role. Nearly two years on, I can honestly say it was the best outcome I could have hoped for. Having my weekends back has been life-changing. Time to be present with family and friends, to rest, to reset and even to tackle the never-ending list of things at home. The benefits have been countless.

I’m fortunate to work in an environment that genuinely supports families. My workplace recognises the effort I put in and in return, they offer flexibility and understanding when life outside of work calls. Whether it’s school commitments or simply the realities of a busy household. That balance is something I don’t take for granted.

Alongside all of this, I’ve always been someone committed to self-improvement. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been on a journey to grow, refine and become the best version of myself. Constantly reviewing my routines, habits and mindset.

It’s something that comes naturally to me, but let’s be honest; when you’re juggling children, school schedules, a career, pets, a home and a social life, consistency can be a real challenge.

I also recognise that I can be incredibly hard on myself. I set high standards and place a lot of pressure on my life to feel as close to “perfect” as possible. While I know perfection doesn’t truly exist, what I’m really striving for is the best – for my life and for my children’s lives.

That desire shows up in every area: school, work, friendships, social settings, home life, personal interests, holidays – everything. But I’m also very aware of how deeply I feel it when things don’t turn out the way I’d hoped.

Mental health is paramount. Balance is essential. Sometimes, no matter how self-aware or driven you are, there are pieces you just can’t quite bring together on your own. That’s when it’s not only helpful, but powerful, to bring in a professional perspective.

Which is exactly why I’ve recently brought a coach into my life.

I had my first session last week and I can genuinely say I’m so glad I made this commitment. I’ve booked six sessions to start, with the option to continue. Even after just one session, I already feel a renewed sense of positivity and clarity.

What’s important to me is that I didn’t come to coaching from a place of struggle or negativity. Quite the opposite. My life is full, joyful and I’m deeply grateful for everything God has blessed me with. My starting point was already strong.

But this isn’t about fixing something broken – it’s about elevating what’s already good.

I want to keep refining my life, creating the best possible environment for myself and my children and continuing the journey I’ve been on for years. Coaching will help me take things to the next level.

Top 5 Reasons to Bring a Coach Into Your Life

  1. Clarity on What Truly Matters
A coach helps you cut through the noise and focus on what’s genuinely important – aligning your actions with your values and long-term vision.
  2. Accountability That Drives Action
It’s one thing to set goals; it’s another to follow through. Having someone to check in with keeps you consistent and committed.
  3. A Fresh, Objective Perspective
Sometimes we’re too close to our own lives to see things clearly. A coach offers insight, challenge and guidance you might not reach on your own.
  4. Support Without Judgment
Having a space where you can be honest, vulnerable and ambitious, without fear of criticism, is incredibly powerful.
  5. Elevating, Not Fixing
You don’t need to be struggling to benefit from coaching. It’s about growth, refinement and taking a good life and making it even better.
