A Family Vegan Meal at Giggling Squid Berkhamsted, 2026

I visited Giggling Squid in Berkhamsted a few years ago and had such a lovely experience. I’ve also eaten at the Brighton restaurant and, once again, the atmosphere, food and service were fantastic.

Despite those wonderful experiences, I’d never taken the girls before. Perhaps I wasn’t sure whether they would enjoy it, although they absolutely love Wagamama and have always enjoyed any Thai food I’ve cooked at home, so it made sense to give it a try.

Last month, we happened to be strolling along Berkhamsted High Street and stopped to browse the menu. We were pleasantly surprised by the number of vegan options available and promised ourselves we would book a table for the end of the academic year.

It felt like the perfect opportunity to celebrate the girls finishing Year 7 on a high, especially after receiving such fantastic school reports.

Booking online was super easy. I added a note to say that we would prefer a quieter area of the restaurant and that we would need vegan menus. When we arrived, we were warmly welcomed and shown to a quiet table, with menus ready for us to browse.

We were served promptly and offered drinks and starters. I ordered a virgin mojito, while the girls chose soft drinks. We also ordered the Chilli Chickpeas to start, which were absolutely delicious. The portion was more than enough for the three of us, particularly as we were planning to order several sharing dishes for our main meal.

Although we chose a selection of dishes to share, I had my eye on the Live Long Noodles, and I’m so glad we ordered them because they were incredible.

Our sharing dishes included Veg Spring Rolls, Salt & Pepper Chilli Mushrooms, Pak Choi & Tenderstems, Jasmine Rice, Sticky Rice and Tom Yum Fried Rice. (I didn’t get photo’s of everything sadly)

Everything arrived together, was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. The flavours were fresh, vibrant and full of flavour, with every dish making us go, “Yummmm!”

The noodle and stir-fry options on the vegan menu all looked incredible too. Now that the girls have experienced the food at Giggling Squid, I can easily imagine us ordering our own noodle dishes next time, along with a couple of plates to share.

We were offered dessert menus, but honestly, we were all completely stuffed and couldn’t manage another mouthful.

The staff were lovely, friendly and welcoming throughout our visit. They made a real effort to engage with us and helped us feel relaxed and at home.

We’ll absolutely be returning to Giggling Squid in Berkhamsted. Finding somewhere lovely to eat together as a family is so important, especially somewhere where you can feel comfortable, relaxed and enjoy genuinely delicious food.
