The Kind Kitchen

Plant-Based Market

We officially stepped into spring this past weekend and I marked the occasion with a visit to a charming plant-based artisan market in my old hometown of Tring. It was my mum’s idea, one I happily embraced, for the chance to spend some quality time together while indulging in a little vegan shopping.

Set within the cattle market area, the event hosted around a dozen stalls – small enough to feel intimate, yet varied enough to explore at a leisurely pace. It gave us the perfect opportunity to browse each stand, chat with the passionate vendors and carefully consider our choices. We arrived right at 10am, hoping to beat the crowds and judging by the already-busy car park (especially for a Sunday morning), it was definitely the right call.

The selection was wonderfully diverse: from cakes, pastries, cookies and doughnuts to halva, coffee, beauty products and an array of savoury cuisine. Honestly, I could have walked away with something from every single stall. What made the experience even more special was the warmth of the vendors – so many were genuinely delighted to chat and share their stories.

There’s also something deeply rewarding about supporting small, independent businesses, especially those built on ethical, plant-based values. These are people who are not only creating beautiful products, but are also actively contributing to a kinder food system, reducing environmental impact and promoting healthier choices. Choosing to spend with businesses that prioritise animals, the planet and our wellbeing feels like a small but meaningful way to be part of that positive change.

We couldn’t resist treating ourselves to a few delights – pastries, Turkish delights and doughnuts made their way into my (thankfully pre-packed) tote bag.

I also discovered that the event is run by Kordia Events, who host similar markets across the country. I was genuinely surprised and thrilled, to learn they have a full calendar of upcoming events. Safe to say, I’ll be back and next time I’ll arrive even more prepared to indulge.

If you get the chance, I highly recommend checking out their calendar to see if there’s an event near you. And a small tip: arrive early – it makes for a relaxed and enjoyable browsing experience.
