February: Life & Moments

February felt undeniably sombre. Losing one of my cats after 19 years was a heartbreaking way to begin the month. With everything that lay ahead, there was little time to properly pause or process the loss. I’m grateful of that day I spent in my comfies just crying and talking to friends.

The first week passed in a blur of home repairs, rubbish collections and preparations for an upcoming work trip. Amid the heartbreak, there was still comfort in having her sister with us – also 19, alongside our bunny. We also began using a new pet sitter and I cannot express how grateful I am for their care. They were incredibly kind during such a difficult time and attentive in every aspect of looking after both my cat and bunny.

Although I wasn’t in the best headspace to travel, the work trip turned out to be a welcome distraction. Having something to focus on, even briefly, was a quiet relief. I stayed in a beautiful hotel and was upgraded to a suite, which made the experience feel all the more special. Still, there was nothing better than returning home to my twins and our animals.

The following week brought another work trip, thankfully one that could be completed in a day. It was a long stretch in a meeting room, though made more enjoyable with a working lunch. I often choose Market Halls for these – the variety of food and relaxed atmosphere make it an easy, reliable option.

Despite the cold and damp, we made time for walks in some of our favourite spots. Getting outside always feels important, whatever the weather. The girls have continued their horse riding lessons, which are going wonderfully. Their semi-private sessions, shared between the two of them, have really supported their progress and confidence.

And, of course, there were visits to the garden centre for artisan bread and a few indulgent extras. We’re lucky to have both a local independent and a nearby chain, offering the best of both worlds. The independent remains a favourite, especially with its restaurant, where we enjoyed a relaxed Sunday treat towards the end of the month.
