May: Life & Moments

Well May has been another blessed, brilliant and busy month! I started the month off with another coaching session. We’ve covered so much during these sessions already and they’ve genuinely been helping me. I’ve got a couple more left in this block and I’m already looking at booking another six sessions to keep the momentum going and I’ve been sharing my coaching journey here.

It was also my first weekend in five weeks having some solo time. If you’re a regular reader, you’ll know how much I value time alone and, when it happens, I really try to elevate the experience as much as possible. The weekend was all about relaxing and not cooking, which naturally meant M&S suppers and desserts for me.

It was also a Bank Holiday weekend, so we had time to plan something for Sunday. We met up with friends for a cheeky shopping trip followed by Wagamama’s together – such lovely company and time so well spent.

The first bank holiday of the month saw us pop to the garden centre and once again spent the day relaxing. I made the most of the day off to repot some basil using a trick I’d seen on TikTok with supermarket-bought basil plants. Twenty-five days on, each pot has grown so much and is absolutely thriving – I’m genuinely so impressed.

Before we knew it, we were back to work and school, and I had a full week of life-admin type appointments and events. It started with a school visit to discuss one of my twins’ annual EHCP review. Everything went really well and sounded incredibly encouraging for the year ahead. She received a glowing report about how well she’s been doing. We still have a few things to work on, which were already in motion, but the school has been thoroughly supportive so far.

I also managed to get my hair cut, which hadn’t been done in quite a while. I just never really seem to get the chance to stay on top of appointments these days. I’d only just had my eyes retested and finally sorted my glasses back in February after two years of knowing I needed them. Honestly, I promised myself that this would be the year I started looking after myself better too.

I also finally had my car fully serviced. It had been a while, mostly because the past two years have been incredibly busy. I had no idea this could all be done at home, so I booked RAC to carry out the full service on the driveway. It was brilliant. I was so impressed with both the service and the engineer that I booked the follow-up work to be completed at home the following week, too.

As always, we had our weekly Riverford delivery. We just get the small veg box, which I find is more than enough alongside our Ocado shop and the occasional M&S and Tesco trips. The asparagus was especially delicious, I had it on toast, and the tomatoes were unbelievably good. The girls loved them served with basil, olive oil, pesto and seasoning.

The girls also had their hygienist and dentist appointments and received great feedback on their dental hygiene, which always feels like a parenting win. I’ve actually written a blog post all about our dental routine if you’re interested in reading more.

I also spent one weekend loading more items onto my eBay store. I genuinely love decluttering and have been on a mission over the past couple of years to sell more where I can, although I still donate a huge amount to a local charity shop too. I definitely don’t have the energy to sell everything, so I tend to refine what I list and thankfully, the items generally sell really well.

Halfway through the month, I had another solo weekend. I really miss the children when they’re with their dad, so I try to keep myself busy rather than spending the weekend moping around, wishing the time away. Back in April, I’d made an enquiry about some private tennis coaching lessons at a local village court, and that Saturday, I had my first lesson since secondary school. Surprisingly, I actually did really well. I went in fully expecting to be awful, but my coach was genuinely impressed – exactly the confidence boost I didn’t realise I needed.

We also had a lovely lunch planned with my mum and cousins, which ended up feeling like a much-needed therapy session over beautiful food and wonderful company. There’s nothing like a good old catch up with your family – I’m so blessed to have such a wonderful family.

The final week of school before half term was actually a fairly decent one, although the girls were definitely ready for the break. We always like to end a term with a cheeky Starbucks treat and, with the weather being so glorious, we had an M&S vegan picky-bits supper in the garden.

We also decided it was time to start preparing for our upcoming holidays, so we headed out for a fairly big clothes shopping trip. We arrived early, knowing everywhere would get busy and, thankfully, it really wasn’t too bad. We managed to tick off a few successful shops, picked up some lovely pieces – including some beauty bits from H Beauty and naturally ended the day with Wagamama’s again.

Bank Holiday Monday was spent with my family, which is always lovely and such a blessing. I didn’t take the full May half-term off work – just the Bank Holiday Monday and one extra day for a playdate with some of our closest friends. We planned a yummy picnic and walk round a Ascott, National Trust – we managed to explore so much more and seeing it in the summer felt very different to when we visited in the spring. Honestly, time with them is always so special – they are genuinely such beautiful humans inside and out, and we feel incredibly lucky to have them in our lives.

I also treated myself to some Freddie’s Flowers. I used them a few years ago during the Christmas period and their arrangements were stunning. I received a “welcome back” email announcing peony season – one of my absolute favourites. I mean, I think most people love peonies, right? I’ve opted for a bunch every other week, and I’m hoping I can make them last a full fortnight so we can enjoy blooms throughout the summer. If you’re interested in signing up to Freddies Flowers, I have a code that will give you 50% off your first flower box!

We ended half term with another fairly relaxing weekend made up of horse riding, seeing family, getting on top of homework, sorting all the back-to-school moving parts and preparing for the week ahead, which somehow took us right to the end of the month. Honestly, I cannot get over how quickly time passes. It’s now June and we already have another busy month ahead with lots to look forward to – before we know it, it’ll be the summer holidays.

I’ve also been busy creating lots of new content for the blog recently, so I hope you’ll have a browse and maybe find a few posts that feel helpful, supportive or relatable for your own season of life too.
