Coaching Update: Making Time for a Mental Reset

Back in March this year, I embarked on a coaching journey. I reached out because I needed a bit of a mental reset – a chance to speak to someone who had my best interests at heart and who could help me find a way through some turbulent times. Both of my cats, who had been part of my life for 19 years, passed away within a few months of each other. Tosca died in January and Khan in April, leaving a gaping hole in my heart.

Work during 2023 and 2024 was also particularly awful. Even now, I look back and think, Why the hell did I stay? I would go as far as saying that the period from mid-2025 until now hasn’t exactly been a bed of roses either – hence my decision to reach out for coaching. I needed a safe space to reframe things, clear my head and start getting my life back on track.

Sadly, I was recently told that my coach is being made redundant, and I am genuinely gutted. We were making such amazing progress, and I finally felt as though I was getting somewhere. She really understood who I am and what I am about. She helped me channel my efforts and energy into meaningful reflection, while putting practical things in place to help me move forward.

We were due to have another two or three sessions, so we were very close to completing the journey together. I have another session on Friday, but it won’t be with my usual coach, so I’m not entirely sure what to expect. I will turn up, listen to what they have to say and see how it goes, but at the moment, I don’t think I will continue. All in all, I have truly appreciated, and needed, these sessions.

They have helped me reset, encouraged me to stop being so hard on myself and allowed me to reflect on everything I have achieved and am still achieving. I will really miss the sessions with my coach, and I will always appreciate everything she has done for me. I feel lucky that I was able to continue the sessions for as long as I did. I will take everything I have learned from them and use it to keep moving forward.

If you are on the fence about signing up for coaching, I would strongly encourage you to give it a try if you are able to. It has been such a valuable tool for me as a busy, full-time working mum of young teenage twins, juggling a blog, a new travel business, a home and a social life.

Every other week, I put myself at the top of the list. Those sessions gave me time to pause, reflect and reframe my mindset. Most importantly, they helped me stop being quite so hard on myself and challenged that persistent little voice telling me I was failing.

I wasn’t failing. I was simply carrying a lot, and coaching helped me recognise that.

Five Reasons to Consider a Wellbeing Coach

  • A safe space to talk: Coaching gives you dedicated time to speak openly without feeling as though you are burdening friends or family.
  • A fresh perspective: A coach can help you look at situations differently and challenge unhelpful thoughts or patterns.
  • Time to focus on yourself: When life is busy, coaching creates protected time to put your own needs, goals and wellbeing first.
  • Practical support and accountability: It can help you turn your reflections into manageable actions and keep moving forward.
  • A reminder of how far you have come: Coaching can help you recognise your achievements, build confidence and stop being so hard on yourself.
